Delegates took a stand against poor leadership from NALC President Brian Renfroe.
In a "historic" vote, delegates from California are putting their foot down and saying no to NALC President Brian Renfroe. A Unanimous resolution was passed this week at the 57th California State Convention which was held in Burlingame, California.
The vote is a show of strength and unity from the rank-and-file members of the NALC. President Brian Renfroe spent over 700 days to solidify a contract that the rank-and-file voted down in a landslide. This, coupled with multiple sets of charges filed against him in the past two years, and his decision making to take powers away from key members of the executive council, has created a spectacle at the National level.
One member of Branch 274 in Pennsylvania said, "This guy makes 325k a year, but won't listen to his own people he represents. If he opened his ears and listened to the carriers he represents, he and the NALC would be in a lot better shape."
Another member said, "Renfroe fumbled a historic moment. In 2023, the labor movement was as strong as it's been in decades. Unions were winning massive contract gains all over America. Through his negligence, Renfroe betrayed the letter carriers by forcing a contract that didn't award our work during Covid or our steadfast support from the American people. Our branch voted no at 87.6%, yet Renfroe did not listen to the members. He HAS to go."
The next round of contract negotiations begins in February of 2026, a few short months away. What will your branch be doing in the next few months to voice your discontent?
